Day 1

Day 1: Arrival Day, Seminary Ridge Museum, Dobbin House Dinner, Ghost Tour, Jennie Wade House

Morning:

The adventure begins as your group travels to Gettysburg, PA. A destination that’s a historic goldmine, you’ll enjoy an exceptionally rich, deep, and constantly yielding source of vital American history. Home to over 1,000 monuments, markers, and memorials, get ready for a deep dive into this pivotal moment in the Civil War and a wealth of historical treasures. Aim to arrive around midday having lunch en route to your hotel.

Afternoon:

Check-in to your hotel and meet your A-Z Travels tour guide. Begin your historic exploration with a trip to the Seminary Ridge Museum. Students will see a collection that focuses on the crucial first day of battle and the building’s subsequent conversion from a school into a field hospital. A highlight for your group will be a tour of the Cupola (the observation deck) where Union officers used the strategic vantage point to watch the initial chaos unfold in an attempt to decipher the enemy’s movements.

Evening:

For your welcome dinner tonight, your group will savor a unique experience as you dine on a traditional “Pennsylvania Dutch” meal at the historic Dobbin House. Built in 1776, it is Gettysburg’s oldest surviving house. Your group can enjoy a tour before sitting down to an exquisite dinner. After a hearty meal, have your group partake in a chilling Haunted Ghost Tour! Nationally recognized as one of the most haunted places in America, a moonlight tour of Gettysburg will focus on the spectral echoes of soldiers and ordinary citizens left behind. Step back in time at the preserved Jennie Wade House, home to Gettysburg’s only civilian casualty. After a spooky night, head back to your hotel for a much-needed rest.

Day 2

Day 2: Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg Cyclorama, Battleground Tour, Pickett’s Charge, Beyond the Battle Museum, Bowling Night

Morning:

Start your day with a filling breakfast at your hotel before immersing yourselves in the Battle of Gettysburg at the Gettysburg National Military Park. Begin with a viewing of the Gettysburg Cyclorama: a meticulously crafted 360-degree painting with narration that brings the viewer directly into the heart of the battle. This historical diorama and auditory experience shows Pickett’s Charge, the climactic Confederate infantry assault on the Union line on July 3, 1863 and the final day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Following this, take a guided Battleground Tour via bus of the surrounding landmarks and battlefields. Learn about the strategies and tactics used, and see the key natural features that shaped the course of the conflicts. From the eerie, boulder-strewn landscape of Devil’s Den, to the open fields at Cemetery Ridge, you’ll get to explore snippets of military history written throughout the countryside.

Afternoon:

After the tour, have lunch at the nearby Gettysburg Eddie’s. Enjoy a tasty selection of American classics before your group’s next excursion: follow in the footsteps of the soldiers and walk Pickett’s Charge. The path through the battlefield is roughly three-quarters of a mile long with ranger led tours available. Hear details about the artillery, the infantry, and the defense tactics used that historic day. Then, enjoy a visit to the Beyond the Battle Museum where you’ll see diverse exhibits highlighting the history of the county as well as stories of ordinary citizens whose lives became unwittingly entangled in the Gettysburg conflict.

Evening:

For tonight’s entertainment, the group heads to the nearby Rockwell Lanes for a fun and relaxed Bowling Night! Choose from a menu of comfort food favorites and mix a little sport and competition in with the evening’s camaraderie. Laugh, compete, and socialize as you celebrate your last night in Gettysburg. Once your group is all bowled out, head back to the hotel for a full night’s sleep.
