Day 1

Day 1:  National Archives Museum, National Museum of American History, Welcome Dinner, National Mall & Monuments

Morning:

Your group will depart and travel to our nation’s capital—Washington D.C.—the heart of American democracy and home to incredible collections of art, history, and science. You’ll see monuments and museums that tell the story of how the country began, grew, and changed, and take a closer look at the institutes that shape American politics and culture. Welcome! You will be greeted by your A-Z Travels Tour Director and check-in to your hotel.

Afternoon:

Your introduction to the city begins at the National Archives Museum. Have lunch at the onsite cafe before going to see the original Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights—the Charters of Freedom. The impressive architecture of the museum coupled with standing before these foundational documents will set the tone for an inspiring trip. Then, continue your exploration of American relics by visiting the National Museum of American History. This museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and displaying artifacts of the United States such as the original Star-Spangled Banner flag and Abraham Lincoln’s top hat.

Evening:

Celebrate your group’s first night in the city with a welcome dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Pick from an extensive menu and save room for a decadent dessert! Then the adventure continues, with a moonlit stroll of the National Mall. Starting with a visit to the awe-inspiring Lincoln Memorial, enjoy panoramic views of the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument, before the journey leads to the solemn Vietnam Veterans Memorial and poignant Korean War Veterans Memorial, commemorating the sacrifices of those who served. You’ll see the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument near where the civil rights leader delivered the famous “I Have a Dream” speech before concluding the tour at the serene and powerful World War II Memorial. After reflecting on these tributes to freedom, your group will head back to the hotel for a full night of rest.

Then take the trolley to see the final resting place of President John F. Kennedy and The Eternal Flame, as well as the Challenger Memorial and The Arlington House, the former home of general Robert E. Lee. Before departure, stop at the US Marine Corps War Memorial (also known as the Iwo Jima Monument).
