Day 1

Day 1: Discovering the Heart of the Nation. Monuments & Memorials

Morning:

 Upon arrival in Washington DC, the group will be greeted by you’re A-Z Travels Tour Director.

The day’s first stop will be the Smithsonian Museum of choice. There are a total of 19 Smithsonian museums and galleries in Washington DC, offering a diverse range of topics including art, history, culture, science, and natural history. These museums collectively house over 154 million artifacts, artworks, and specimens, providing visitors with an enriching and immersive cultural experience.

Afternoon:

 Enjoy lunch at a nearby eatery, fueling up for the afternoon ahead.  Continue on your exploration of the Smithsonian museums.   From iconic artifacts like the Star-Spangled Banner at the National Museum of American History to the awe-inspiring wonders of space exploration at the National Air and Space Museum, each museum invites exploration, curiosity, and discovery, fostering a deeper understanding of the world around them. With interactive displays, engaging programs, and renowned collections, the Smithsonian Museums inspire students to broaden their horizons and ignite a lifelong passion for learning.

Evening:

 As the day transitions into the evening, the group will dine at a restaurant near the National Mall, savoring delectable dishes while reliving the day’s memorable experiences.  The adventure continues with a stroll along the National Mall, starting with a visit to the awe-inspiring Lincoln Memorial, offering panoramic views of the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument. The journey then leads to the solemn Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where students can pay tribute to the fallen heroes, followed by a visit to the poignant Korean War Veterans Memorial, commemorating the sacrifices of those who served.  The evening concludes at the majestic World War II Memorial, where the group can reflect on the significance of freedom and sacrifice.

Day 2

Day 2: Immersion in Democracy. White House, Capitol Building Tour, Library of Congress, & National Portrait Gallery

Morning:

Enjoy breakfast before departing for another day of learning. A highlight of the trip awaits as the group visits the iconic White House for an outside tour, marveling at the historic residence of the President of the United States and capturing memorable photos against the backdrop of this symbol of democracy.

Completed in 1800 and home to every U.S. president since John Adams, the White House stands as a testament to the nation’s history and the residence of its highest elected official.

The next stop is a guided tour of the United States Capitol Building, delving into the nation’s legislative process and history amid the grandeur of the Rotunda and Statuary Hall. Following the Capitol tour, the group explores the Capitol Visitor Center, offering interactive exhibits and insights into the inner workings of Congress.

Afternoon:

 Lunch vouchers are provided at the Capitol Building Visitor Center, providing a moment of respite and reflection. The day continues to unfold with a visit to the Library of Congress, a treasure trove of knowledge and culture, where students can marvel at the stunning architecture and peruse rare manuscripts and literary treasures.

Evening:

 At the National Portrait Gallery, students can engage with a captivating collection of presidential portraits that chronicle the evolution of American leadership and character. From the iconic depictions of George Washington to the contemporary renditions of recent presidents, these portraits offer a visual narrative of the nation’s highest office and its impact on the course of history.  Enjoy dinner before returning to the hotel.

Day 3

Day 3: Icons of Democracy and Exploration

Morning:

 Enjoy breakfast, then check out of the hotel. Begin the day at Arlington Cemetery. Students will witness the solemn Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, honoring the sacrifices of unidentified American service members. Continue on the trolley tour through the hallowed grounds, where they’ll pay homage at the final resting place of President John F. Kennedy and his eternal flame, gaining a deeper understanding of the nation’s history and the significance of those who have served. The visit offers a poignant opportunity for reflection as students learn about the profound legacy of courage, sacrifice, and honor preserved within Arlington’s sacred grounds.

Following this poignant experience, they will marvel at the Iwo Jima Memorial, an awe-inspiring optical illusion that immortalizes the iconic flag-raising during World War II, serving as a powerful reminder of the bravery and camaraderie of those who serve in the armed forces.

Afternoon:

After lunch, the final stop of the day is a visit to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where students can embark on a journey through the wonders of aviation and space exploration, from the Wright brothers’ first flight to the Apollo moon landing. Afterwards, begin your safe journey home.
